Lance Corporal George Edwin Bowen of the 2nd Prince of Wales Volunteers – Killed in Belgium on the 8th of June 1917 aged 32 

Husband of Annie Bowen of 13 Cleeveland Street. A former Cheltenham Town Football player, he was killed during the Battle of Messines, it is likely he was killed by shellfire before reaching the front line.

Private Alfred George Morris of the 1st Worcestershire Regiment died in Belgium on the 31st August 1917, aged 41

Son of Annie Williams (formerly Morris) of 25 Cleveland Street.

He was serving with his battalion in the Ypres sector for the taking of Pilckem Ridge, at first they encountered little opposition, but then opposition became more intense and they were bombarded by machine gun emplacements, it was during this attack he lost his life.

Private Frank Edward Green  of the 1st Royal Welsh Fusiliers killed in Belgium on the 21st October 1914.

Son of Horace and Elizabeth Green of 19 Cleeveland Street, he was a regular soldier who had moved to Pen-y-Graig.

When the war broke out he was in Malta with his battalion, upon arriving in France they were sent straight to the front line, between the 19th nd 21st of October there was heavy fighting around Zonnebeke, the German army desperately tried to force their way into Ypres, although his battallion stayed the enemy advance he lost his life.

Private Henry Dance of the 13th Gloucestershire Regiment was killed in France on the 22nd of March 1918.

Son of Charles and Annie of 20 Cleeveland Street, he worked for Messrs Webb Bros Coal Merchants. He enlisted in 1915, he was killed on the second day of the German spring offensive of 1918 at the Battle of St Quentin.

Private Ernest Montague Morten of the 2nd/5th Gloucestershire regiment killed in France on 1st November 1918.

Born in Stroud he moved to Cheltenham, living at 18 Cleeveland Street working at Battledown brickyards.

He served for 3.5 years in France. In November 1918 his unit attacked enemy positions of the Rhonelle river, crossing the river successfully and taking the high ground to the east of the village of Maresches, they continued to advance the following day. During these operations Private Morten was killed.

He left a widow and 2 children.

Private George Edwards of the 7th Gloucestershire Regiment killed in Gallipoli on the 8th August 1915, aged 19.

The son of George and Catherine of 14 Cleeveland Street. He was drafted to Gallipoli in June 1915, he was killed 2 days after he arrived in an attack against Chunuk Bair.

Private William Stiley of the 2nd/5th Gloucestershire Regiment killed in France on the 25th November 1916.

Son of Arthur Stiley of 7 Cleveland Street. He served in the Somme sector in 1916, on the 18th November 1916 activities in this sector officially ended and the battalion took over part of the trench line opposite Grandcourt. Private Stiley was killed during the battalions normal duties during this period.
